Experience Matters

Colchester have some very exciting young players in the squad, and some experience, but its little surprise that Tony Humes has revealed he’s looking for more experienced heads this summer.

Three successive battles against relegation have ended with success, of course our final day win over Preston on Sunday secured our latest, but as much as continuing to develop our own players is the plan Humes told the BBC that he’s looking for more experience over the summer months too.

In doing this it should enable us to move forward, the importance of this summer isn’t lost on the U’s manager at all.

‘We need some more experience, but we also need to keep developing our young players.

‘We have got to build on what we have done this season and bring in the right characters into this football club.

‘What we do this summer will go a long way to dictating what we do next season and how we keep taking the club forward.’

Four wins, two drawn and only two defeats from our final eight-matches in League 1 saw us move out of the bottom four on a dramatic final day to end the season in 16th.

This form, and fight shown, saw him go onto offer ‘credit to the players’ who he said ‘were brilliant’ with him hailing he ‘character and belief’ shown on Sunday, as had been the case throughout the season.
