Geraint Giving 100 Per Cent

U`s manager Geraint Williams has revealed in the media that he will not bow to the written opinions of a small smattering of fans by leaving his post.

The popular Welshman guided the club to their highest league finish of all time last season and looks set to stay whatever happens this term. The U`s are currently propping up the division in last place, but Williams has publically stated his desire to stay at the club.

Thankfully it would seem that he also has the backing of the management, although recent speculation surrounding his future has inevitably surfaced.

“Why would I walk out?” he responded in today`s Evening Gazette newspaper, which highlighted the somewhat inflammatory options expressed by some supporters on various messageboards.

“I feel I’m doing the best job I can and the best job anyone can. If somebody feels differently, then I understand, but I don’t walk away from anything.”

Clubs in similar predicaments to Colchester have sacked employees, with no noticeable impact. Chris Coleman replaced Ian Dowie at Coventry, while Southampton were forced into a change at the top after George Burley left St Mary`s to manage the Scottish national side.

“Any manager who is in the position I am in in the league at this club would expect that,” said Williams of the pressure.

He added: “I look in the mirror in the morning and say: ‘Am I giving 100 per cent and doing the best I can in this job?’

‘If the answer is ‘yes’, then I can’t do any more. I feel within this club and with the resources and what we are doing, I am doing the best job anyone can.”

He added that he understands the fans being unhappy with the club`s current basement position of 24th, but reiterated: “I feel within this club and with the resources and what we are doing, I am doing the best job anyone can.”
