Colchester United forward Steven Gillespie is set to miss the start of the League One season after picking up an injury… (again!)

The 24-year-old was given his first start of pre-season on Saturday, away at Rushden & Diamonds, click here, but was withdrawn with 56 minutes on the clock. Gillespie was making his return from a hamstring injury, which affected him on the squad’s trip to Germany only a few weeks ago, and it appears he has suffered relapse.

U’s boss Paul Lambert, post-match, said: ‘We are not sure if it is his hamstring or not yet, but it looks like the same problem as in Germany.’

The U’s travel to recently-relegated Norwich on Saturday, in a tough season opener at Carrow Road, a game which looks likely to come to soon for Gillespie.

‘It is a worry as he is just back from injury, but we will see how he is on Monday,’ Lambert explained.

U’s fans will not be surprised, but disappointed all the same, that the U’s most expensive player looks set for another spell on the sidelines – especially when it is clear he has so much ability!

So do you think Gilly will ever get fit?

Shocking – there must be an underlying problem with his back that is effecting the hamstring…..think it would well be worth paying up his contract and getting rid of him

Well, yeah, must have something seriously worng with him. Is so annoying as he could be so good!

He will prob play 17 games again this season. Its a cycle. He gets injured. Out for a while. He comes back, makes a couple sub games. Maybe starts one and then goes off injured again.
