Colchester United manager Paul Lambert marked his first game in charge of the U’s with a win.
The struggling U’s earned a hard-fought victory over Stockport County, at Edgeley Park.
A goal from David Perkins and and a late Clive Platt strike gave the Essex side their first league win of the month.
The U’s started brightly and record-signing Steven Gillespie spurned a good chance, with less than a minute gone.
However, the U’s lead with 20 minutes gone, through Perkins. The blond midfielder calmly slotted home from just inside the box, following good build-up play.
With half-time just around the corner, the home side got level. Matty McNeil headed home a cross from the right-hand side, fending off pressure from Paul Reid in the process.
Early in the second-period McNeil was stretchered off, with a nasty looking injury, following a collision with U’s centre-back Reid.
Three-minutes from time, Mark Yeates’ clever flick allowed Platt to fire home from close range and snatch a dramatic victory for the U’s.
