Manager Paul Lambert was keeping tight-lipped on Colchester United`s chances of signing loanee Lewis Gobern full-time after his debut appearance against Cheltenham Town.
Lambert called Gobern a “top player” on BBC local radio as the weekend`s final scores came in, but remained diplomatic about the prospect of securing the winger for more than four weeks.
Gobern is a product of Wolves’ famous youth academy, and has come to Colchester as part of a long-term rehabilitation, after two separate hamstring injuries. He played as a second-half substitute against Town.
Lambert told the BBC: “We`ve got him for a month. We`ll do our best to keep him on the football pitch and if Lewis delivers for us, then he`s helping himself, the football club and also helping get his career on track. He is a top player.”
