PAUL LAMBERT was quick to praise his Colchester United players after last night’s impressive win against Millwall.

Clive Platt’s 84th minute goal was enough to hand the U’s all three points at the New Den. Despite being under pressure for long periods of the game, the U’s managed to snatch a narrow victory.

Lambert, 39, post match, said: ‘I suppose it was the perfect away performance, in front of a passionate crowd against a team who are going well in the league.’

The ex-Scotland international also spoke very highly of the performance of the U’s defensive back-line.

Lambert enthused: ‘I thought our back four were magnificent. Pat Baldwin had his best game for me, while everyone knows how good Marc Tierney is, and Alan Maybury for that matter.’

‘Neal Trotman has just come in [on loan from Preston], and I thought he was as good as he was on his debut at Leicester. Overall, the back four were back to the kind of form I expect them to be in.’

Last night’s win lifted the U’s to 10th place in League One, a vast change to when Lambert arrived at the Weston Homes Community Stadium.

‘When I arrived the club were down in 21st spot, so it’s a terrific effort to be where we are, in 10th place. And I won’t be giving up hope [on the play-offs] until someone tells me that it is not possible,’ he concluded.

So were you in the group of traveling U’s fans? If so what did you think of the performance?

Great three points away from home – just what you needed if you are going to push for the play offs.
