Free agent Matt Lockwood has been making eyes at League Two Northampton Town – although they have not offered terms.

The 33-year-old former Colchester United Nottingham Forest and Leyton Orient full-back is trying to engineer himself a contract following his dalliance on loan sides Barnet and Dagenham & Redbridge last season.

The defender lives in Southend and therefore has also been linked with a possible switch there.

Lockwood, who awaits offers, said: “The phone hasn’t rung at all and it is very worrying because you’d expect to have at least a few calls regarding your availability, so to have nothing is rather concerning.”

He endured poor luck at the club under now Norwich manager, Paul Lambert and fared no better once Aidy Boothroyd (now Coventry) took over.

He was originally signed in 2008 by Geraint Williams.
