Centre-half Adam Virgo insists the mood is still upbeat in the Colchester United squad, even with the Essex side gathering only three points from a possible twenty-one in recent weeks.

The somewhat unfortunate 1-0 defeat at Molineux against Wolves last night means that the U`s are in the lowly position of 20th place in the Coke Cola Championship, just two points off the basement.

Virgo on-loan from Scottish Champions Celtic, made his first start since Mid-October and impressed as the U`s hit the woodwork twice, in the Black Country.

Results haven`t favoured the U`s in recent weeks but dressing room morale is still high, according to the former Brighton and Hove Albion trainee who will be at Layer road until mid-January.

“The confidence is still very good and we`re still playing good football. That will always be the case because we`ve got a good manager and a good squad. Virgo told the Evening Gazette.

Virgo also highlighted the financial difference between Colchester and Wolves, “If you look at the Wolves squad and the money that they can spend compared to us, it`s on a different level.

‘But if anyone said that their team was better than ours, I`d question their judgement.

‘We don`t want to keep saying it after every performance we have. But I genuinely felt that we should have at least got something out of the game,” he added.

“The way we started I felt there was only one team in it. We set our stall out to try and keep quiet, which I think we did but the goal was a bit of a sucker punch.

But we came out fighting second-half and we could have nicked it at the end, so the result is very disappointing,” explained Virgo.
