Behind the at least semi-serious stuff going on for Saturday`s hosting of Swindon there was something else to cheer about – a new release of the club`s terrace anthem, ‘Up The U`s`, recorder by local band, Absent Kid, played for the first time before Saturday’s kick-off.

The four-piece were given licence to remix the song as part of a continued drive to maintain a good atmosphere at the club`s still relatively new stadium and follow in the footsteps of Special Duets (1998) and Koopa (2006) in reproducing the record. The record comes after the club also part-funded the cost of a new drum, belting out in time to chants on matchdays almost without relent or fail.

This specific music track was originally a music-hall favourite dedicated to the team and as owes an ongoing popularity to being very unique, amid a mêlée of so many generic chants throughout football. The tune`s distinctive sentiment is what adds in some small way to a sense that there is always something overtly special accompanying allegiance to any one particular club.

So, what of ‘Up The U`s,` mark three? A slower, swinging melody this time around means the intention to offer supporters something slightly slower to sing to as part of the pre-match build-up comes to fruition – and possibly any harmony with an encore encouraging the club to scale the football league`s heights must get a gold star from any true partisan.
