Aidy Boothroud has undoubtedly echoed the thoughts of most fervent Colchester United followers after victory against Swindon, saying the result will gain context through what happens next.

The U`s face other fellow top-six chases Charlton and Huddersfield as the season reaches a climax and it is now a case of making up for lost form for the Essex side as they lost ground during a recently miserable run of eight games without a win.

We go into our next game full of confidence and we definitely feel that we`re back,” Boothroyd told BBC Radio Essex at full time, having seen the squad put three goals past high-flying Swindon Town. “It`s a huge result for us – a massive result, it really is.”

The points looked all-the-better for Colchester`s clean sheet, their thirteenth of the season; United have now drawn level with Huddersfield and only sit outside the play-offs on goal difference.

Boss Boothroyd continued: “Hopefully, we`ll look back on that [result] at the end of the season and say that it was a defining moment. But it will only be a defining moment if we can build on it at Charlton on Tuesday night and then Hartlepool. It was a hard-fought win and a deserved win. We`ll take whatever we can get, after what we`ve had.”

With five games to go and a potential fifteen points to play for, including those theoretical ‘six-pointer` ties with positional rivals, it seems Colchester chose a good time to potentially turn a corner after their poor-scoring shows of recent weeks.
