Spurs defender Phil Ifil has signed for Colchester in a day that has seen Manager Geraint Williams finally make some headway in the transfer market.

Earlier Chris Coyne signed from Luton Town and with two new defenders on the books the Colchester Manager seems intent on addressing the U’s defensive frailties that have been all to evident in the first half of this season.

21-year old Ifil has come through the ranks at White Hart Lane and has recentley been on loan at Southampton, who were also reported to be chasing the defender in the January transfer window

Ifil has joined for an undisclosed six figure fee. He has also had loan periods at Millwall, in 2005 and 2006.

Ifil is expected to go straight into the U’s squad for the trip to Bristol City.

He will kick ass at col u, quality player.

  • Shelfish says:

I don’t really know what happened here. When Ifil broke into the Spurs team he did a great job and then disappeared on various loans without ever getting a look in back at Spurs. It’s a shame that he never got a chance. Good luck to you and him.

Agree quality little player you have there now bags of potential guess Mj just didnt take as much notice as he should have.Nonetheless wish him well at your club.

rumours were that it went to his head and he lost his way a little, but last season he seemed to get his head right and I think he will do very well for you.

Good Luck Phil, got yourself a decent little player there.

He’s a great signing, hats off to all at the club!

A Good Player On His Day But Can Blow Hot And Cold…!

  • Matt_Us says:

Perhaps. But he’s got something to prove and will get a lot of football at Layer Road – is he a right or left full-back?

  • saint spud says:

he is a good player who provided sufficent cover for saints at right back, in the injury crisis, obviously George didn’t rate him enough to sign him, he looked better on smaller pitches as he often goes to narrow, a good signing nevertheless for Colchester. Think he will leave if/when relegated.

  • Matt_Us says:

Cheers Saint Spud! Good anaysis. Would be sensible to have given him a get-out fee, so perhaps he would leave if the U’s went down.

  • StevieG Col U says:

Yeah is a great signing, does this mean the end for Doogie?

  • Matt_Us says:

…perhaps! A pre-emptive move, maybe, as he might go to Hull or Charlton.

  • StevieG Col U says:

Wouldn’t bother me if he goes, he’s slow, can’t tackle and the effort isn’t there. This happenend last summer we don’t buy anyone and all the fans get annoyed, but then we go and pull two new signings out the bag, in the summer it was Teddy and Yeates and now Coyne and Ifil. It helps lift all the fans spirits when this happens!

  • Matt_Us says:

Good news, perhaps, although the table is the thing. Coyne and Ufil are just names unless we stay in the division; all four of them, even Yeates, would be off if the U’s went down. Don’t spend beyond your means, gaffer! Up the U’s!

  • Deeno says:

Worth an investment Matt to keep us in this division at least!

  • Matt_Us says:

As you can see, I’m a bit low on faith at the moment in the team. Prove me wrong Col U – this double coup should help of defence.

  • StevieG Col U says:

Do you think we will see anyone else come? Cowling said there are some ‘live’ bids!!!

  • Deeno says:

I am positive there is more to come!!! Yesterday has shown the commitment of the club and the management team, in terms of players coming in the two that signed yesterday may be the indicater that those others contemplating signing may need to show the club is indeed serious!
