Colchester skipper Karl Duguid has been linked with premiership new boys Watford and Sheffield Utd.

Duguid 28 has served the U’s for 11 years and is at present in contract talks and may turn down a new deal, with his current deal due to finish in the summer.

Karl has had a great season so far, having returned last year from an 18 month career threatening knee injury.

Duguid’s representative, Barry O’Connor, revealed: ‘Karl will be a Bosman free in the summer, if nothing happens in the transfer window.’

Charlton, West Ham, Preston and Derby are also interested in the player, with suggestions that Colchester will sell Duguid to the highest bidder.

It is always in Duguid’s best interest to play down transfer speculation, as he will probably do in his newspaper column this week. He is probably right to, because, as we have lernt from the Halford saga, there is no transfer until a good enough bid is made. Are we really so strapped for cash that we have to sell the skipper? Couldn’t blame him for leaving, given his service to the Super U’s!!
