Ben Williams has reaffirmed his commitment to Colchester this week following a fine first season between the posts for the club he joined from Carlisle.

The popular player replaced home-grown Dean Gerken, offloaded somewhat controversially to Bristol City by former manager Paul Lambert.

He has another two years on his contract and told the Evening Gazette he is “totally” behind the cause to get Colchester playing in the Championship once more.

The words come following speculation amongst some more nervous supporters that the exit door would swing open for either Williams or his defensive partner, Marc Tierney, who was linked to both Norwich City and Coventry earlier in the close season.

So while Tierney`s future remains in doubt, Williams has once again proved he is very much a safe bet for the U`s for the foreseeable.
