Steve Cotterill A Colchester Candidate?

Steve Cotterill is another possible future Colchester United manager, despite his public links with Portsmouth because he is young, ambitious and out of contract.

The former Burnley boss matches some vague criteria laid down by U`s Chirman Robbie Cowling because he recently left publicity-courting League Two-winning side Notts County after failing to commit to them for the future.

Cotterill is experienced at 45 as his lack of attachment to a club would suit Colchester’s unwillingness to appear hypocritical in having to induce compensation from another club in the wake of Paul Lambert’s still unsolved compensation row caused by his Norwich depature earlier this season.

Since England goalkeeper David James is also in the running to take the Pompey job, it seems reasonable that Cotterill may prefer an all-together sturdier option of managing the U`s as successor to now Coventry City boss, Aidy Boothroyd, whom he would replace.

Other names in the speculation frame are former MK Dons manager Paul Ince, ex-Ipswich and QPR manager Jim Magilton as well as Mark Venus, Paul Buckle (Torquay), George Burley and current Luton coach and former United player, Kevin Watson.
