U`s enigma Akanni-Sunday Waisu has returned to the club after his Luton Town loan saying he fears for his immediate future.

The striker managed just one goal in six games during his spell away, which makes his meagre tally just three all season.

Luton boss Mick Harford kept him slightly longer than the originally-agreed deal, but the Nigerian returned to Essex this week in the knowledge that he has a lot to do to win a contact extension beyond the end of the current season.

As things stand, Sunday will leave Colchester this summer, with Luton an obvious possible destination. The club were tracking the striker before he committed to United during pre-season, and former U’s coach Harford is a known fan of the player.

Now, Sunday is realistic about his slim chance of remaining a U`s player under Paul Lambert in the long-term.

He told the Essex County Standard this week: “My contract is up at the end of the season and I am hoping that I can do some magic before then!”

The 24-year-old has fallen behind Clive Platt, Steven Gillespie, Scott Venron and Jamie Guy in the race for a starting place in the side.

He added: “I have played in so many places during my career and I know how football is. I first need to force myself into the first team here. If I can do that, I might get the chance of a new contract.”
