After just two seasons in the Championship Colchester United have been relegated to Coca-Cola League One after Watford lost away to Barnsley tonight
This result means that the Colchester cannot now catch the Tykes.
And with Leicester City and Sheffield Wednesday set to play on April 26, it means that Colchester can only match the two teams immediately above them.
Speaking to the Official Club Website Chief Executive Marie Partner said,”Despite the league position recently, we have always held onto the last vestiges of hope, so it is a strange feeling to go down when we’re not out on the pitch,”
“As disappointed as we all are – and there will be a lot of people hurting over the next couple of days – we now have to kick on with what we have been doing over the past six months, which is to step up our planning and preparation to ensure we can get back up there as soon as possible.
“We may be down now, but there are a lot of positive things going on and we are all doing what we can behind the scenes to make sure that we’ve got every chance for an immediate return.”

Well its been along time coming, wouldn’t expeted Barnsley to beat Watford 3-0 on their own patch!
Sorry to see you go down. Never really recovered from the sale of the front lads that banged them in last season. Wish you well for next season.
Well we aint struggled for goals, just cant keep them out!
Sad to see you down chaps, hope you bounce back next season in your new ground! You are fairly local to me living in East Anglia so with both Luton & Southend also dropping, my options for a local away visit are getting less & less
Thanks turfmanphil, we will come straight back up, Up the U’s!
Yeah hope a bounceback is on the cards!
