Colchester United are rumoured to be close to bolstering their striking options, with some reports linking Paul Benson to a move.

U’s chief Paul Lambert, after strengthening his defence, is now keen to boost his attacking arsenal.

Clive Platt and Steven Gillespie, along with winger-cum-striker Ashley Vincent, both appear to be favourites of Lambert but fellow forwards Scott Vernon and Jamie Guy both look likely to depart. However, as reported on Vital Colchester, click here, the former has said he will not rush into a move away, after recently rejecting Carlisle United.

Benson, of Dagenham & Redbridge, is currently in the middle of a hotly disputed debate between the Daggers and the U’s League One rivals Gillingham.

A number of reports stated that the Gills had had a £150,000 offer rejected for the goal-poacher, although both clubs have strongly refuted these claims. This transfer saga has been reported in depth on the U’s sister site Vital Gillingham, click here. Rumours on messageboards across the web have linked the U’s with possible captilising on the situation and capturing the unsettled Benson.

However, young Rotherham United striker Reuben Reid, as once again reported on Vital Colchester, click here, is also touted to be on the U’s radar. And recent reports have said the U’s are looking to the Championship for added firepower.

So what forward would you like to see the U’s sing?
