Paul Lambert, and Colchester United, appear to have accepeted defeat in the chase to sign Shrewsbury Town star Grant Holt.

The U’s had a bid of around £250,000 rejected by bosses at The Prostar Stadium but it was widely believed a deal was still viable. U’s chief executive Steve Bradshaw recently said that negations were on-going, to read the article, click here.

However, after Shrews boss Paul Simpson slapped a ‘hands off’ message on Holt it as though a any transfer off.

Lambert, 39, confirmed to CU-FC.com: ‘It appears that Shrewsbury have said he’s not for sale and we have to accept that.’

But he did also reveal that despite the knock-back the U’s are still determined to strengthen their forward-line. It remains to be seen who else is on Lambert’s radar.

‘It doesn’t alter the fact that we are in the market for strikers and that search will continue,’ he added.

So who do you think the U’s should look to now?
