Colchester United have confirmed the experienced John Ward as their new manager, in a 1pm press conference.

As predicted here on Vital Colchester, the U’s have appointed Ward, 59, to fill the managerial void left by Aidy Boothroyd, who recently went to Coventry City. The former Cheltenham Town boss will be assisted by club legend Joe Dunne.

Chairman Robbie Cowling has opted to appoint a new manager from within, with the experenced Ward being deemed the best man for the job.

Vital Colchester would like to wish John and Joe the best of luck.

That seems to be what everyone is thinking, Terrier! At least he knows the team and such.

Yep, not a big name, but brings some continuety! Good luck!

  • Matt_Us says:

Could do a good job as he knows the players and will have money to spend, most notably the Lambert and Boothroyd money!

  • colu_chip says:

Yes he knows players and team, and what with not being a big name he may stay, I’m just hoping though he has different tactics to Hoofroyd, no more long ball PLEASE, its boring to watch and it doesn’t work.

Mr. Chip, I think many fans feel the same way!

  • StevieG Col U says:

Yep, agree with colu_chip. He said he wants to win football matches but also hopes to try and score goals and get plenty of crosses into the box… We will see!
