The U’s crashed out of the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy at the hands of League One rivals Gillingham, tonight.

After the match finished 1-1, as Clive Platt canceled out Simeon Jackson’s opener, in the second-half, it went to penalties. And want-away midfielder David Perkins missed the decisive spot-kick – as the home side won 4-3.

But arguably the most exciting news of the night was that Aidy Boothroyd was in the stands at Priestfield Stadium – which all but confirms the news that he will be named Colchester’s new boss tomorrow.
