Colchester United collected their first three home points of the season, comprehensively beating Tranmere Rovers 3-1.
The U’s were in front on seven minutes, when the on-loan David Mooney controlled David Perkins’ miscued shot and fired home.
Shortly later it was two, as attacking ace Anthony Wordsworth curled a world-class free-kick into the top corner – leaving the Rover’s goalkeeper with no chance.
The U’s continued to dominate, creating a number of chances.
And on thirty minutes, the game looked over, as Andy Bond sent a free kick back into the path of defender Magnus Okuonghae who headed in from close range.
Rovers came out with slightly more fight in the second-half, but it was the U’s who looked dangerous once more.
Ashley Vincent squandered a great chance before the U’s won a spot-kick for a pull in the area. Wordsworth stepped up but the Rovers’ ‘keeper guessed right and pushed his powerful effort wide.
And the visitors got a consolation goal shorty afterwards, as Enoch Showunmi raced to clear to score.
