Colchester United FC have confirmed by letter that any potential renaming of the West Stand in honour of Dick Graham would be impossible.

Vital Colchester understands that United wish to protect their commercial interests at the year-old ground and are unable to jeopardise any sponsorship deals by personalising any part of the stadium.

The club`s response may also have been influenced by the fact that the stadium is a council-funded community venture.

During a fan poll published on this website on Wednesday, here, money-conscious supporters voted in at second the option to sell the stadium`s naming rights, behind a unanimous thirty percent selecting the Dick Graham Stand as a preferred choice.

Several other options also meant, however, that over two-thirds of the vote actually went against the option for a Graham stand.

United have however not ruled out erecting a statute or replicating Layer Road`s Dick Graham Lounge in tribute to the ex-boss who mastermind Colchester`s now infamous defeat of Leeds in the 1971 F.A. Cup.

What would you like to see the club do for ex-boss Dick Graham?
