Geraint Williams is scouring the emergency loan market for a new goalkeeper; this comes after the U`s second choice stopper Mark Cousins was ruled out of Saturday`s Coke Cola Championship clash with Wolves.
Cousins has been suffering from appendicitis, so Colchester are in need of a loanee to provide cover for first-choice keeper Dean Gerken. As veteran Aiden Davison is already out with a long-term shoulder injury, Gerken is the only fit senior keeper on the books at Layer Road.
Williams hopes to get a deal completed in time for this weekends important clash, he told The Colchester Gazette: ‘The problem is that if you’re looking for someone with a bit of seniority they don’t usually want to come and sit on the bench.’
‘But we’ll be looking at the other squads and seeing if anyone has the desire to come out and have the experience of pushing Dean for the spot in the team.’ He explained.
