Celtic’s former Brighton utility man Adam Virgo made his debut for Colchester United from the bench on Saturday in the 2-2 draw with Barnsley after joining on a sixth-month loan.

Virgo, 24, will provide a solution to Colchester’s need for both attacking and defensive strength in depth. He has come to Essex, according to reports from the BBC, in a bid to recapture the form that first encouraged the Glasgow giants to invest £ 1.5 million in him during July 2005.

After last season’s loan spell in the Championship with Coventry, Virgo has chosen Layer Road as his next place of employment and will plug the gap currently left by a raft of unprecedented injuries in an expanded U’s squad.
