White’s Birthday Belter!

Colchester United defender John White has spoke of his disbelief, after scoring from 30 yards on Saturday.

White celebrated his 22nd birthday by finding the net in the U’s 5-1 triumph over Dagenham and Redbridge.

White, speaking to myfootballwriter, said: ‘I was shocked! I didn’t know what to do once it went in and I’m just over the moon to have it and especially on the day that it came.

‘I think defenders probably enjoy their goals more because it’s a rarity, it’s more of an event when it happens, especially for people like myself who don’t go up for corners where you get more of an opportunity.

‘When you get the chance to come forward and shoot, and it goes in that one time it’s obviously really good for you. But I’ll have to work on my celebrations in training – I’ll come up with something!

‘I’ll take it, it’s been a long time and was obviously my first senior goal – it came on the right day for me!

‘I don’t think everyone will be saying it was a fantastic strike, not sure the ‘keeper was too happy with himself, but as I said, I’ll take it and go on from there,’ he continued.

‘My last one was for the youth team – it was that long ago – I think I scored two actually, a little toe poke and a header from about five-yards.

‘So it has to be the best goal I’ve scored, I can’t remember many others unless I go back until Sunday League days!

‘I think it was something that was lacking from my game last year, the attacking side, so obviously that’s something I’ve been trying to work on and now is the right time to be doing it in pre-season.

‘I’m getting ready for the season and to move on to what I want to be doing.’
