Williams: No Pressure

Colchester United manager Geraint Williams was in a positive mood last night even though his side suffered another defeat – the U`s hang dangerously above the relegation zone in 20th place.

Williams, who has enjoyed an impressive start to his managerial career, insists he is not under pressure from “up above”.

The U`s were unlucky to return to Essex with nothing to show for their efforts as they came up against high-flying Wolves at Molineux last night.

Stephen Elliott`s first-half goal was enough to give Wanderers all three points as Williams`s men struck the post twice in a game they could have quite easily of won.

Midfield ace Kem Izzet hit the upright with ten seconds remaining, but it wasn`t to be.

“If results don`t go your way, then things might happen, but there`s no pressure from up above. The chairmen (Robbie Cowling) and the board have been fantastic,” Williams told the EADT post-match.

“You don`t always get what you deserve in football. That was us at our best against Wolves.

‘We got at them and made it difficult for them to play. We hit the post twice and created several other chances.

“I`m not feeling the pressure because I am a positive person. We haven`t come here and defended for our lives. Instead, we have defended high up the pitch and been positive,” he added.

“Kem (Izzet) was unlucky to hit the post late on.

‘The ball was slightly behind him but he caught it sweetly. The keeper had no chance but the ball rolled back off the post and straight back to him, which meant that we walked away with nothing.

“In a way, that summed up our night. I won`t be putting pressure on myself, and I won`t be changing the way we play, Williams explained.

Why would he be under pressure?

He is not in the sense that he won’t lose a job; he’s a legend for last season as his commitment to the U’s! His transfer policy is under the microscope and the league position is poorer than hoped but we’d all take 21st at the end of the day!
