Youngster Impresses Dunne

Colchester United reserve-team manager, Joe Dunne, was impressed by trailist Chris Fagan’s performance, in the reserve team draw with Ipswich.

The Manchester United youngster featured for the U’s second-string, against Town, at Layer Road yesterday afternoon, as they played out a 1-1 draw. Fagan will be the first of many trialist’s to get a chance in a blue and white striped shirt, as U’s boss Geraint Williams plans ahead for next season.

Fagan also played for the U’s in a behind closed door friendly with Crystal Palace earlier this month, and could feature for a third time in a U’s team constructed of only traillists next Thursday.

The 18-year-old Dublin born front-man is a product of the famous Home Farm youth system, which produced former U’s star Mark Kinsella. Republic of Ireland Internationals; Richard Dunne, Ian Harte, Graham Kavanagh, Stephen McPhail and Busby Babe Liam Whelan also graduated from Home Farm.

Second-string chief, Dunne, said following the draw with Ipswich: ‘The opportunity has come about for us to take a look at Chris.

‘He is from the Manchester United academy and you could certainly see that his movement was excellent.’

‘Chris has a willingness to run and learn – his contribution was good but he was probably a bit frustrated that he couldn’t get on the ball more than he did.

‘He has played two games for us now and the manager will decide what happens next.’
