Stand-in skipper Pat Baldwin says that any player not motivated to face high-flying Leeds today might as well hang up their boots. It might be a cliché, but it certainly makes a good headline!

His comments come after Steve Bradshaw, Chief Executive, had already urged supporters to produce “the best atmosphere in the county” this afternoon.

Baldwin told Dream 100 FM in the build-up to today`s game that it should be an exciting encounter. “It`s going to be a great day and close to a sell-out. If our fans can recreate some atmosphere, we`ve got a chance.”

Thinking positively despite a great time of upheaval at the club, who currently have caretaker Joe Dunne as manager, he added: “As professionals, it doesn`t matter what`s going on in the background with the manager.

“If you can`t get up for a game like that, there`s no point in you playing football. I do love playing in these big games and I`m looking forward to it hugely
.”

Seven should prove a lucky number for one of these sides, because firstly there have only been six previous encounters between the sides and secondly Simon Grayson`s side are chasing a record seventh straight win, which no Leeds side has achieved since it was set in 1973.

Defender Baldwin sounded as enthusiastic as any supporter, adding: “Leeds are top for a reason. They`re a good side, very good side, with a dangerous front-two. It`s going to be a hard one but it is a huge game for Colchester United but with the sell-out, it`s going to be a great occasion.”

There you have it – the stage is set for this afternoon`s game, which sees a showdown between second and third place in League One.
