And then there were, well, a few less names than before!

Paul Buckle
has followed the lead of Dagenham & Redbridge manager, John Still, in declaring himself out of the running for Colchester`s managerial post.

Both Buckle and Still were linked with the vacancy over the weekend as they each awaited confirmation of contract extensions at their current clubs.

It was thought that Buckle had been amongst a small roster of employed names contending, as Robbie Cowling this morning confirmed someone currently in work at another club underwent interview yesterday.

He was first thought as a possible successor to Paul Lambert confirmed someone currently in work just days after the role became available.

The likelihood now is that Mark Kinsella could instead be that man – he is contracted to present League One leaders Charlton, working as first-team coach.

In a statement via the Torquay official website, Buckle revealed there had been contact between the sides regarding his services: “We had a situation of Colchester United speaking to Torquay United but the most important thing is that we move forward with fresh ideas.

I am very happy at Torquay, there was interest from Colchester and the two clubs spoke but I haven’t been for an interview and I will be sorting out my new contract at Plainmoor.”

The U’s say there are now six candidates left and that they expect to confirm the new manager before the weekend’s trip to Southampton.

I don’t think Kinsella is the man currently employed as Cowling said in the Gazette ?We have spoken to another club about their manager and we had been given permission to talk to him”

Peter Taylors name has been mentioned a few times today?

  • Matt_Us says:

Cheers, Cuff. Welcome to the site. I agree, even though I wrote the article! Kinsella is not a manager, so… that would make sense. Taylor? Well, he has a bit of experience so not surpised to see him linked.

  • StevieG Col U says:

Yeah, welcome on board mate. Yeah – most probably Taylor. Think we have better options though….
