Robbie Cowling has recently explained that what he called Norwich City`s “appalling” conduct has lead to him denying them extra tickets for the upcoming derby.

January 16, Colchester`s next home match and first in 2010, will see City come to town for the first time since Paul Lambert crossed East Anglia and although Cowling knows several thousand more Norwich fans would take tickets, he declined to increase their allocation.

Explaining the move, which seems to be paying off as sales have now reached the final thousand, club dual Chairman-owner explained he had taken a financial risk, but in good faith.

If I extend ticket allocation to away supporters, I`m pretty-well guaranteed a sell out. However on this rare occasion I am not prepared to do so. I think this is a game that everyone who follows Colchester United should attend and I am therefore prepared to risk the extra £30,000 in revenue for this important game.”

As written elsewhere on site, positive sales figures ahead of what will be a feisty affair seem to have proved Cowling correct in assuming U`s fans will want to attend a game which has assumed an almost cosmic significance as the current season`s much enthralling sub-plot.

Cowling added: “I am sorry if this decision goes down badly with the Norwich fans, who I personally have no gripe with. However, the Norwich board have acted appallingly towards out club recently and I`m sure I have never wanted to win a game of football so badly.”

The Chairman’s personal grip comes partly from City’s unwillingness to agree compensation for Lambert’s services since he left at the start of season.
