As Karl Duguid prepares to return to Colchester`s matchday squad for the first time since sustaining an injury at Stoke City earlier in the month, he has warned the rest of the Championship that the U`s are capable of beating anyone in the division.

Despite the recent loss to rivals Ipswich on Tuesday night, and general concerns about indiscipline at the back, the Colchester capitan commented: “I don`t think we`ve played anyone this season where we`ve thought they would run away with the game. We should have beaten Charlton and have beat West Brom and we score goals wherever we go.”

Duguid is raring to be back among the XI after his spell on the sidelines, and, although he admitted that losing against Ipswich was a bitter pill to swallow, the 29-year-old is happy for the chance to make amends so soon.

He said on the club`s official website: “It was disappointing, because, for 70 minutes we didn`t deserve to lose that game. We were the better team and flying at one point.

“That`s football and it`s good that there is another game coming round quickly to allow us to put it right – as players you`ve got to get ready for the next game.”

On his own fitness, he said: “I`m part of the squad – I`ve trained this week and hope to be involved.”
