Colchester United`s most improved player of the year George Elokobi has set his sights on bagging the ultimate honour by admitting he wants to play internationally for Cameroon.

After winning his place back, having been understudy to Chris Barker as the U`s set unprecedented levels of achievement in the Championship last term, the youngster has told the Evening Gazette that he wants to emulate one of his sporting heroes, Roger Mila, by making the big step up.

“My biggest aim is to play for my country.

“I know that if I’m playing regularly for my club I could be in line with a chance for a call-up,” said the 21-year-old who was praised by Chris Iwelumo as Colchester`s biggest prospect when the Scot returned to Layer Road recently with new club Charlton.

Kevin Lisbie, who has benefited from several smashing assists, is also a known admirer of the player who is intends to make this campaign his first full one as an automatic choice in the first team.

“I’m still learning but the more games I get under my belt, the better I’ll get,” he said.

“This is my first full season and I’m trying to do the right things. Playing international football is something for the future.”
