Earlier this summer rumours were rife that Dean Gerken was another want away player from the Colchester Squad, however contrary to this he was on the verge of signing a new contract.
Infact the young stopper had been in negotiation with the club since the turn of the year, finaly putting pen to paper prior to the squad leaving for their recent training exercise in Limerick.
This was of course great news as Deano had made the No.1 spot his, helping his side to a record finish in their first year of the Championship.
However credit has to go to veteran custodian Aidan Davison who has been coaching the young keeper and effectivley keeping himself out of the side, this just goes to show that the Goalkeeping Union at Colchester United is a fully paid up member of the ‘Team Spirit’ club.

I am so pleased Gerkens staying put. He will be a real asset this season. Hope he doesn’t have his ‘work cut out’ tho and we have a solid defence. I remember a particular match last season where Aiden was a ‘One man show’ hopefully that wont be the case this time round.
Yeah its great news, well chuffed about that!
