It has emerged that Colchester United`s loan signing Dave Mooney is willing to play through the pain barrier for the club against Sheffield Wednesday.

Although the club have yet to cast verdict with an official fitness rating on the Reading loan man, he has revealed that when he first suffered an ankle kick against Hereford during the recent League Cup tie, he thought he had broken his leg.

Mooney scored two of the U`S three goals on the night of his debt and is seen as an obvious doubt for the next league game.
He told the Colchester Gazette, however: “It`s a bit swollen but it`s mostly just stiffness and bruising now. I`m hoping it will be ok after some more treatment and a little bit of TLC. I`m pretty hopeful about playing a part on Saturday, even if I need a pain-killing injection.”

There is no indication yet of how bad the other setback, to fellow new addition Andrew Bond, is – he also sustained a kick to his ankle in the same game.
