Colchester United`s midweek marvel Kem Izzet has praised stand-in boss, Joe Dunne, for his approach in the midst of a very tumultuous time for the club.

Dunne himself has also hinted he intends to take up the management cudgels one day, although modestly refused to put himself in directly line for the role he is currently undertaking in a full-time manager`s absence.

Izzet, speaking after the Gillingham game on Tuesday evening, explained that marked differences in style between ex-man Lambert and the caretaker are not an issue.

Joe was very calm about everything. He has been in this position before, alongside Kit Symons, so he knows what to expect,” the recent 300-gamer told the East Aglian Daily Times. That night, Izzet also reflected on becoming a first-choice contender again with the departure of Dean Hammond.

He was reciprocal of the positive fan reaction to the team`s rousing win, as they appreciated his fitting nomination for man of the match.

Meanwhile, Dunne reacted graciously to an undercurrent of support tipping him to takeover permanently saying he “would be crazy” to stir up further speculation on the club`s official website this week.

I do want to manage a club at some stage in the future. I have been the type of character to test myself to the limit and, if I ever fail, at least I know I gave it my best shot.

What price for Dunne to take the top job?

I’ll back Dunne all the way. Good loyal character who has been with the club for a while. Good job there was a clause to stop ******(Lambert) getting rid of him!

  • Matt_Us says:

What’s that about a clause to stop JD going…? Explain!

  • StevieG Col U says:

Well, from what I believe. There was an agreement/clause to stop Lambert, when he arrived, getting rid of Joe Dunne when re-shaping the back-room staff.

  • ooohhJohnnieJackson says:

That might explain why was Dunne was first team coach, reserve team manager and youth team manager!

  • Matt_Us says:

Exactly – glad we have had that written in. Points for the U’s staff there!
