COLCHESTER UNITED boss Paul Lambert has revealed he would consider looking outside of The Football League in his summer search for new talent.

The ex-Scotland international said about how he was aware of now Football League stars Aaron McLean and Michael Kightly, then plying their trade in the lower waters of English football.

Big changes in personal are expected at the Weston Homes Community Stadium during the close season, as Lambert attempts to build a promotion-challenging squad.

Lambert said: ‘I would consider going down that route and have looked at that side of things in the past.

‘I watched Aaron McLean when he was at Grays in their match against Tamworth and saw enough in that one game to suggest he was worth trying for.

‘I had also looked at Michael Kightly, but other clubs came in for them both at that time,’
he continued.

‘If the players are good enough and hungry enough, then it’s something we’d look at.’

So can you think of a non-league star you would like to see arrive in North Essex?

Young, hungry talent is the way forward IMO and outside the League is where you could well find it. Would love us to uncover a gem…
