Sheffield Wednesday manager Brain Laws has admitted that his side`s poor start cost them the points against Colchester today.
Teddy Sheringham`s opening goal was one of the fastest of the afternoon and it gave Colchester the lead before George Elokobi made in two. Despite grabbing one back, Wednesday lost of the first time in six games.
Colchester won for the first time since October and after his side`s 2-1 defeat, Owls manager Laws told the BBC: “We went one down after a minute. The second goal was a real killer for us and I am very disappointed. They deserved the points. I have no excuses. We were second best all the game and in all areas of the pitch.
‘It was a bad start for us when Yohan Folly was told his mother was ill before the kick-off and he was going back to France. We wish him and his family well.
“Things got worse when Michael Johnson had a back spasm 15 minutes before kick-off. But no excuses. We need to regroup and focus against Southampton.
“We have to forget that previous result and, in the past, we’ve always done that and we’ve come back after a setback.”

Sheringham is a top pro, even the wednesday fans applauded him when he was subbed.
That’s a point I made in the full match report! The odds for him to score first and a U’s win were something stupid like 90/1!
