Joe Dunne is prepared for criticism during his interim period as Colchester manager, which is why he has been guarded about the prospects of landing it full-time.

Colchester`s failed fight-back against MK Dons on Saturday saw United lose their previously unbeaten record this season and fall behind League One`s chasing teams for the first time.

Caretaker Dunne remained quiet on his potential as the next main man at the Weston Homes, but asked fans to accept that the U`s “gave it their all” against the a so-far undefeated home side at stadium:mk.

I`ve been in situations where you have no manager and I`m pretty sure today there will be plenty of people sitting in the stands saying: ‘That`s why you need a new manager`, because of this or that reason,” he explained on BBC Radio Essex.

Dunne added:”We`ve lost a game now so everything will be my fault and so on and so forth – but as players, they have to give their all. If they don`t, they will get beaten every week. But I thought they gave their all today.”

Those words intimated that he fully expects more as a certainty during what remains a very uncertain time indeed for the club.
