Colchester`s re-jigged fixture-list sees midfielder John-Joe O`Toole suspended the Norwich City game – and Paul Lambert`s rolling contract means he might not make it either!

Lambert is currently being strongly linked among a number of potential candidates for the newly-vacated Burnley job after Owen Coyle moved to their Premier League rivals Bolton this week.

A second Lambert walk-out of the season, therefore, is theoretically possible because the Scot was only awarded a semi-permanent deal there when appointed.

His first came shortly after co-ordaining United`s 7-1 clobbering as U`s boss in the autumn.

Any accepted Burnley approach therefore, although currently denied as pure speculation by City, would potentially leave Lambert free to complete an astonishing switch to Lancashire and therefore Norwich without a manager for the return East Anglian derby in eleven days.

Meanwhile, O`Toole was originally due to miss out against Yeovil Town after amassing ten bookings but now sits out the next game instead, since Saturday`s match was re-scheduled due to swathes of snow.

Ironically, it was shortly during the reverse encounter between the same opposition, Yeovil, earlier in the current campaign that Norwich publicly revealed contacted with Lambert about becoming the club’s next boss.
