Colchester United target-man Clive Platt has signed a new and improved deal with the U’s.

The club have also revealed that they have rejected a bid of £400,000 for Platt, from an unnamed League One club. The 30-year-old joined the U’s for £300,000, from MK Dons last summer, and netted eight times last season.

U’s chairman Robbie Cowling told the club’s official website: ‘We have fended off a £400,000 bid from one of our League One rivals for Clive Platt, and he has now committed himself to our club by signing a new improved and extended contract.

‘Within our means we are doing all we can to attract the very best players and staff to Colchester United.

‘We are also doing our best to hold on to our players, who all too frequently are attracting interest from other clubs.’

Platt follows John White, who agreed a new deal last week, in signing a new contract with the Essex side.
