Sanchez Ready For Unfinished Business

Sanchez Watt can’t wait for the season to get going next weekend so that he can resolve the ‘unfinished business’ that he feels he has after seeing his spell cut short last season.

The rapid winger joined up with Joe Dunne’s U’s from Arsenal alongside fellow Gunner Eastmond, before following in Eastmond’s steps towards the end of the summer to pen a permanent two-year deal.

However, his time with the U’s last season was cruelly cut short due to a hamstring injury sustained during the FA Cup defeat at Chelmsford, forcing the winger to return to the Gunners prematurely.

Watt went on to miss the rest of the season and Eastmond followed shortly after with his own injury but, speaking to BBC Essex, Watt admitted that he was ready to finish what he started.

‘Everyone looks ready to go and I can’t wait for the season to start,’ he admitted. ‘It felt a bit like unfinished business for it to be cut short, and listening to how Colchester were doing wasn’t nice.

‘I couldn’t believe that it came down to the last day. But everyone is in the same position now so you can’t say who is going up and down, so it comes down to the style of play and how the players and staff looked after me.

‘I enjoyed my football on and off the pitch and Colchester is a calmer lifestyle which is good for me.’

The U’s enjoyed a hugely successful time on the pitch with the duo in their ranks, rising up the table before swiftly dropping back down upon their injuries.

Although supporters are filled with excitable optimism that a similar vein of form can be achieved this season with the pair back full-time, there must be caution applied to not expect too much from a very young pair of footballers.

Reflecting on the season-ending injury sustained, Watt admits it was the worst he has suffered but feels he is now back and raring to go, stronger than ever.

‘I’ve never had an operation before but it has helped to clear it away and it’s stronger than ever,’ he explained. ‘I feel better than before now, so hopefully it will be a good season.’
