Sheringham Colchester Bound?

Former England international striker Teddy Sheringham is being linked with Colchester United by a variety of sources in the media, with the East Anglian Daily Times suggesting that the 41-year-old could become player-assistant manager.

Sheringham, a full decade older than the now departed Jamie Cureton, is also apparently courting the interests of sides in America but it is also well-known that his last remaining career ambition is to play with, or alongside, his son Charlie, who currently earns his weekly wage at Crystal Palace.

Teddy, however, is a free agent after being released by Premiership West Ham, for whom he had not donned the claret shirt on a regular basis since the arrival of boss Alan Curbishley.

Despite this, and the fact that Sheringham publicly told Sky Sports in January of doubts about his capacity to continue playing the game at any level, he has since stated a desire to sign with another club.

This was confirmed when Teddy received a much-deserved MBE during the last birthday honours, awarded by Her Majesty The Queen.

His agent Barry Neville is also reported in the same EADT article to have said there is ‘no guarantee` Teddy will remain in this country; he may prefer a move to the MLS.
