Teddy Sheringham, who was suspended for the last three games, is now back and fighting for his place in the Colchester team.
The former international Striker was at Buckingham Palace earlier this week to collect his MBE from Prince Charles, however he is back in training ahead of Saturday’s home game against Crystal Palace.
“It’s good to have Teddy back but like any other player he has to earn the right to play,” said boss Geriant Williams.
“Kevin (Lisbie) and Clive (Platt) have the shirts at the moment, and they have done well so we’ll have to see.
“He hasn’t brought the MBE in yet but I’m sure he might want to show the lads. It’s certainly one of the better excuses I’ve heard for missing training,” Williams added.
