Top 5 – Free Men To Avoid

Go ahead, you know you want to! Tell us which players you would pick up on a free, looking at the latest list on the PFA Website, if you were U’s manager!

Hundreds of players found themselves out of work on July 1, with clubs across the country telling players they could not afford to offer terms.

Just over a week later, Vital Colchester says it is over to you! After yesterday`s fun, click here, we thought we`d list some players to aviod! We at Vital U`s have a go at listing our current top five! Do you agree?

5) Micheal Ball – Defender, aged 29

Released by Manchester City ——Interested – Ipswich

Why I shouldn’t buy him: Hard to find a more hated full-back around on half of Manchester, after his deliberate stamp on Chistiano Ronaldo of late. Except Ben Thatcher, perhaps. Who is playing at Ipswich, where Ball is linked. And Roy Keane, no stranger to planned challenges himself, is manager. What a tio at Town that would make, eh?

4) Steve Kabba, Striker, aged 28

Released by Watford —— Interested – None

Why I should’t buy him: Despite his still youngish age, and Premier League experience, the he has an appaling scoring record.

3) Ivan Campo Midfielder, aged 35

Released by Ipswich —— Interested – None

Why I shouldn’t buy him: Would be a brave manager to take Campo on again in England after his poor season with Ipswich and despite Premiership and Real Madrid experiecne. Seems to have lost what little pace he had remaining. Even got in trouble with the police on his way out of Roy Keane’s sqaud!

2) Ezomo ‘Izzy’ Iriekpen Defender, aged 27

Released by Hull City—— Interested – None

Why shouldn’t buy him: He oddly had his contract with Scunphore terminated in January 2008, following a previously fine spell which saw him become club skipper. Following a horific injury, Iriekpen played for a non-league side before being snapped up by Bristol Ctiy, for whom he played just eight times.

City boss Gary Jhonson let him go after he failed to pove he could stay fit for an entire season – take a risk (he’s still young for a defender) if you dare!

1) Danny Granville Defenderm aged 34

Released by Layton Orient ——Interested – None

Why I shouldn’t buy him: U’s fans are all-too familiar with Granville, who was oddly played at centre-half sometimes during an abysmal year with the U’s. His legs have almost definitely gone.

The hard luck story is that he was let go at the end of his current contract by Geriant Williams, the ex-U’s boss who sent him on his way last summer. Who will be brave enough to sign him now, even with those teams like Leeds and Chelsea on his CV?

That’s it: thanks for reading our three-day free frenzy feature!
