Marc Tierney says Colchester United have vowed to atone for Saturday`s “very disappointing” day ahead of tonight`s game against Stockport.

The full-back played in his first career derby as the U`s went down 0-1 at home to rivals Southend over the weekend.

Colchester`s Weston Homes Community Stadium, however, enjoyed a highest-ever attended for the visit of their near neighbours.

“We were looking at the game to bounce back,” said the defender, who also recently said he believed the club could cut the mustard at Championship level, if re-promoted.

Talking to BBC Radio Essex, continued: “The fans that turned up were absolutely amazing. To not come out with the tree points, and instead to have lost, is very hard to take.”

A recent signing from Shrewsbury, Tierney has become the club`s first-choice left-back. He was enamoured with his side`s initial second-half display but hurt by the narrow loss to the Shrimpers.

“Considering all the fans that have turned up today, it`s unbelievable. My first taste of derby, and it`s a very bitter one, to go down to a goal like that.”

“We need to bounce back after this,” he added, as the U`s have now lost three league games on the spin. “We`ve got the quality in the squad to go on another amazing run.”
