Colchester United have this afternoon confirmed the capture of young triallist Ben Coker.

Coker, 21, has spent the last year-and-a-half with non-league Bury Town. However, a number of impressive performances earned a pre-season trial with the U’s.

And during a three week spell with the U’s management team and squad, Coker has shown enough potential to earn a two-year contract.

Coker hit 11 goals last season, as Town raced to promotion. The former Northampton Town trainee can operate at either left full-back or pushed on further at the left of midfield.

He joins fellow triallist Lloyd James is signing on for John Ward’s U’s side, with the midfielder penning a deal just yesterday.

Vital Colchester would like to welcome Ben and wish him the best of luck in his time with the U’s.
