Unmoved on speculation

Colchester are being linked to more and more players, not that Robbie Cowling will be ‘drawn’ on speculation surrounding any players.

One of the more recent names has been Jennison Myrie-Williams. The U’s chairman though, as he told The Gazette, is not speculating on anyone including the Stevenage winger.

What he would say though is the club are ‘active’ in their movements but would not be paying for a signing, free transfer and/or loan will be the route taken: ‘all I can say is that we are active.

‘I don’t want to speculate on any names because it might harm our chances of signing the players we are interested in.

‘But I can say that we are talking to people.

‘There’s no transfer kitty and we’re not looking to buy anybody at this stage. It is far more likely to be either a loan signing or a free transfer.’

With Gavin Massey joining The U’s on loan from Watford unless Stevenage are going to release 23-year-old Myrie-Williams, who has already been loaned to Port Vale this season, he will not join Colchester unless on a temporary loan basis?

John Ward has previously worked with the winger though during his time with Cheltenham.
