COLCHESTER UNITED drew 2-2 in a thrilling Essex Derby with League One new-boys Dagenham & Redbridge on Tuesday night.

The result saw the U’s make it four points from two home gmes in the last four days, keeping a nine game start-of-season unbeaten record in-tact.

Daggers drew first blood, with powerful forward Bas Savage tapping in at the far post as the U’s failed to deal with the visitors pacy attack.

And the U’s were lucky not to be further behind at the break as John Still’s side dominated, but failed to capitlise.

Anthony Wordsworth went close for the U’s, before Ashley Vincet skilfully headed a pin-point John White cross beyond the dive of the Daggers’ ‘keeper.

HALF-TIME: 1-1

The U’s came out with slightly more intent during the second period, as the Community Stadium witnesed an end-to-end encounter.

And it was in-form loanee David Mooney who fired the U’s into the lead, as his carefully-placed 18-yard effort flew into the top corner.

But the game was all square on seventy-one minutes, a dangerous ball into the box was met by Romain Vincelot who sent a classy header into the net – leaving Mark Cousins with no chance. The goal came at a cost, however, as Vincelot was forced off with a nasty injury, following a clash of heads with Magnus Okounghae.

Both sides looked for a late winner as the game finished 2-2 – a result which could prove vital for the U’s.
