Aidy Boothroyd told BBC Radio Essex after the F.A. Cup hammering against Preston that injury to John White will not be long-term.

A full-time update on his condition makes him doubtful only for next weekend`s away game against Yeovil Town.

He was replaced by striker Joel Thomas with the U’s already two goals down in what turned out to be an unexpected 7-0 thrashing.

The knee strain means he joins fellow full-back Lee Beevers on the sidelines.

White has been virtually ever-present for Colchester since Boothroyd replaced Paul Lambert as manager but also has Phil Ifil and Alan Maybury for possible competition at the back.
