Colchester United manager Geraint Williams is set to appoint a new captain, following the departure of Karl Duguid to Plymouth.
Williams’ View
Speaking to myfootballwriter, Williams said:
‘Of course I have,’ when asked if he had considered who should be his new skipper.
‘It’s something that we look into, not only players ability but their characters,’ reflected a reluctant Williams on the luxury of so many qualified candidates. ‘So we want strong characters and we’ve certainly got a number at the club at the moment.’
Chris Coyne, Dean Hammond and Matt Lockwood all used to captain their former clubs, while Johnnie Jackson has deputised in Doogies’ absence on many occasions.

I think your signing Paul Reid from Barnsley on a free! rumour has it anyway! — – — your friends at vital Huddersfield! first winners at the community stadium! Cuckoo!! Lol
Im all for giving the armband to Coyne as he is a natural leader but then again if Jacko was made captain it may help in keeping him if any clubs came in for him
Yeah I feel Coyne would be the best man for the job, but at the end of the day if giving Jacko the armband makes him stay then I’ll go with that.
